First Gazan families welcomed in London

In December our first welcoming team formed to help families recently arrived with children needing medical care.

We met them at a dinner we arranged with the GUPJ UK (General Union of Palestinian Journalists in the UK). Realising their needs over dinner the London group formed within two days to help them rebuild their lives.

With the help of their friends and neighbours they provided clothes and toys – people are not allowed to bring any bags when they leave Gaza, and a push-chair – a family was carrying their very ill child and a baby to hospital appointments, an outing, friendship, household equipment, advice on heating and shopping, and a shared Christmas meal along with hours of conversation. Another newly arrived family was put in touch by these families. We are liaising with the London borough support team.

People we Welcomed

A child has recently arrived in the UK to begin his recovery, and has been warmly welcomed and supported by our team.

Newly arrived Gazan family's Dad sends his message of thanks.

One of our team in London sits with a father. His family recently arrived from Gaza for major surgery for their 4yo. She and the CFP - communities for Palestinians team have supplemented the help of Lambeth council with friendship, toys, clothes, trips, advice. and made the whole family feel at home in a new land with a landscape of devastation behind them. He greets the team and thanks us. The warmth of friendship shines between them.

A Day of Compassion and Support

These photos capture moments from a special gathering where people came together to offer support, share progress on sponsoring Gazan families, and hearing Leigh Evans - retired nurse from Swansea, Wales - speak about love, courage, his journey on the Flotilla, and what he endured in Israeli prisons. Small moments like these remind us how powerful community can be when we stand together.

Communities for Palestinians - why and what we are doing

Communities for Palestinians UK connects people who can help with people who need safety and support.

Supporting the Palestine Women’s Kitchen – Cairo

As part of Cwtch Pals efforts (which is a founder member of CFP) to support 50 women who escaped the war to Egypt, these incredible women are using their cooking and business talents to rebuild their lives — restoring hope, creating healing, generating income, and supporting their children’s education. We support them in earning a sustainable income so they can provide education for their children.

Welcoming teams are forming in different parts of the country

Local groups are organising public meetings to discuss A whole community welcome for named families. The next two in January are in Manchester and Hereford.

At this stage we have no permission from UK government to  welcome anyone . We are preparing the ground ahead of permission, working with some brilliant MPs. Ben Lake initiated a four political party letter asking for a meeting with the Home Secretary. It is headed by Simon Opher and co-signed by MPs Ben Lake, Dr. Ellie Chown, Andrew Ranger and Leyla Moran.
All the large mature organisations kindly tell us that we are pushing against the tide and will not succeed. They point to the UK White Paper on immigration reform which is producing horrified responses. The whole issue is deeply divisive. This Pandora’s box of policies does have a glimmer of hope at the bottom. It ends with commitment to give communities more control through community sponsorship with naming. We are fanning this glimmer to become a blaze of warmth and light in cold and dark times.
