Communities for Palestinians UK

To welcome Palestinians into our communities to save lives and build a better future for all

A campaign for a community-led welcome for Palestinians

We are a coalition of individuals, community groups and organisations. We are witnessing, with intense alarm, the situation being faced by our many friends, colleagues and relatives in Gaza. We share an urgent and sincere wish to alleviate their suffering and help them recover.

Reconstruction takes time, assuming the peace holds. Another winter without roads, sanitation, health care, security or homes will claim many more lives and prevent recovery.

We know from experience that our communities have the power and passion to welcome people who are fleeing destruction and allow their children to heal and rebuild their lives in safety.

Through this campaign, we are building momentum from the bottom up.

Together, we can demonstrate the power and will of local communities to welcome our global friends and neighbours.

Our Mission

We support Named Community Sponsorship as a pathway for communities to nominate and welcome the refugees they wish to support as they rebuild their lives in safety, dignity, and stability.

Introduced by the UK government in November 2025, the scheme enables local groups, charities, and faith organisations to play a direct role in providing housing and practical support for refugee families.

How Community Sponsorship Works

Named Community Sponsorship places communities at the heart of refugee resettlement. Sponsor groups help secure accommodation, support families as they settle, and assist with access to services, education, and employment.

Refugees are typically registered with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and identified through the sponsoring community.

However, UNHCR does not have a mandate to register Palestinians. We are calling on the UK government to address this barrier within the new scheme.

Community Action

Across the UK, communities seeking to sponsor Palestinian families are preparing for the new scheme by raising funds, identifying accommodation, working with local authorities, and building teams to support families.

They hope the new Named Sponsorship scheme will enable them to welcome and support these families within their communities.

A Day of Compassion and Support

These photos capture moments from a special gathering where people came together to offer support, share progress on sponsoring Gazan families, and hear Leigh Evans - retired nurse from Swansea, Wales - speak about love, courage, his journey on the Flotilla, and what he endured in Israeli prisons. Small moments like these remind us how powerful community can be when we stand together.

Ceasefire Update

The peace deal was cautiously welcomed, but it has not been realised as promised. One-sided killings continue, encroachment is expanding, and people are being denied the basic means to survive or rebuild. The areas where Gazans are forced to live under plastic sheeting are now flooding, leaving families with no dry or safe place to go. Anyone attempting to return to their homes across the invisible line is shot. The suffering continues with no clear end or hope in sight.

Therefore, our twin core aims remain the same: to grant communities here in the UK the ability to identify and welcome people from Gaza through community sponsorship — giving them the chance to help save lives and provide healing for children — and to ensure that people in Gaza are given autonomy over their futures, including the right to seek safe recovery after the immeasurable suffering they have experienced.
